HISTORIC SAVANNAH

A remarkable urban refuge, designed by renowned designer Sean Rush as his own private sanctuary, lies hidden in the heart of historic Savannah GA only a few steps from Forsyth Park. Rush transformed this former church into his personal inner-city oasis in 2007.

A sense of deep tranquility descends upon entering the front door. A fenced slip of a courtyard to the left runs 40 feet along the length of the building. Visible through glass doors, this contemporary Zen-like garden allows the structure to breathe and blends the intimate interior with a lush and living exterior. Upward lighting bathes bamboo in a soft glow by night and reflects off a Chinese gong hung at one end of the enclosure.

On the right, the master bedroom beckons like a magnificent exotic tent contained by functional drapes made of antique Persian rugs.

Beyond the bedroom, a 200 year old Chinese nobility wedding creates another seductive room that functions as sofa, daybed, lounge, or miniature retreat.

At the rear of the space an open chefs kitchen, minimalist and utilitarian with a 6x6 concrete island perfect for entertaining, grounds the open and serene expanse. Tucked away beyond the kitchen and ready to indulge the senses is the ultimate spa bathroom. Entirely tiled in white subway tile, it features an eight-foot walk in shower, double seated bathtub and apothecary wall.

Adding to the feeling of sanctuary, Tibetan inspired painted walls span the home. For Rush this pied-à-terre was a place of rest, in the charming city that inspired Midnight in the garden of good and evil.
